We have had a number of parishes asking about the requirement for a retreat prior to the youth receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation this upcoming Easter Season (2021). Since the pandemic continues, the ability to gather in person is still very limited, and technology burnout is a real factor, Father Glennon Jones, Vicar General for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, has agreed to continue the exemption (5/28/2020) of a required retreat prior to Confirmation for 2021.
Parishes are invited to encourage those who will be confirmed (confirmandi) to make a retreat next year (i.e. once the pandemic has ended). Parishes may also wish to offer some reflections, prayers, meditations for parents, sponsors and their confirmandi to do at home so as to prepare their hearts and souls for the reception of this beautiful gift of Confirmation.
